In the hustle bustle of daily grind, we forget what is our true purpose of life. In the age of ever-growing internet speed from 3G to 4G to 5G the mankind is ever busy trying to match up their routine in parallel to the data speed. We do not stop, we do not think, we do not retrospect, we do not self-analyze, in short we have become self-centric, for us the planet is all about I, me, and myself. Now we live life on the surface level, we do not look back, we do not think critically, even with a thought of prioritizing ourselves we are not giving importance to us truly. All these reality checks, spiritual discovery and most importantly the basics of life have given importance in Dr. Michael Ritivoi Hansen’s book The Age of Ignorance.
Hansen’s book covers vast subjects including the philosophy of political theories such as Marxism, Capitalism etc., at the same time it analyses topics like Monotheism, Narcissism, Atheism, Sin, Love, Ego, and so on. Sometimes the author tried to jot down his personal beliefs regarding the philosophy of these subjects, or in some cases he referred to numerous verses from the Holy Bible, or quotations from other renowned books. There are examples of multiple professionals including Doctors, Scientists etc. Even in establishing a point he mentioned about Sir Albert Einstein’s observation making his writeup more authentic and truer to the core of the subject.
Initially in the prologue the author tried to find what is the actual truth, and with a lot of analysis he finds that it is transcendent, fundamental reality, and a flawless idea. This topic is followed by several questions about spiritual awakening. In the later part he mentioned our standard source of spiritual knowledge is the Holy Bible. Hansen tried to illustrate why Christianity is significant and how it should be practiced to make it more relevant to mankind. A survey conducted by the author asked people about their take on the purpose of life. In response some said to earn a better living or in some cases people went with creative answers like exploring the world in every best possible way. Hansen himself mentioned his own take on this topic. The more the writeup moves forward the more the topic becomes heavy, such as learning what religion teaches, going deeper to the core of political theories and how Hansen himself experienced and observed both their positive and negative side in places like the USA and Romania.
There are mentions about the collision of Christian ideologies and Jewish religious practices. Koran and Old Testament stern rules, religious dogmatism, making the way of life rigid by the torchbearers of God also brought under the spotlight in The Age of Ignorance. In the later part of the title, Hansen mentioned about his take on spirituality, he feels it is very complex, yet it is exciting in its way. By his words and with the help of a few quotations Dr. Hansen tried to discover what is the actual meaning of love, sin and ego. There is much more to explore in this book about the deepest truths of mankind. Whenever the author introduces a new point to discuss, he tries to mention multiple sides of the subject making the reader more enriched which in future will help them to get a broader view of various things in the daily grind. If you ever feel stuck in your life and want to restart it with a new perspective, then Dr. Michael Ritivoi Hansen’s book The Age of Ignorance is definitely a recommended one to look out for.
